Delhi’s Weekly Market

Life is so hectic for every one in this world. Nobody finds time even to say hello to neighbours. Morning to evening life has become so mechanical and in this situation human feelings are the causality.

I find visiting weekly market (very common in northern part of India) every week refresh my mind and soul and breaks the monotony, which started on Monday. You can buy anything from pin to pillar from this roof less super market.

I always feel that my week never comes to an end without visiting this market. I really love to meet my neighbour and say hello to him as I failed to wish him in the colony for the past one week!.

It was really pleasing both to the mind and to the eyes to see the plenty of green vegetables in a row at both the sides of the road. I am amazed to see the vendors, who always enthusiastic and vibrant and shouting at full pitch. I never noted a change in their mood, and they always at their best. This quality always inspires me whenever I am in low profile.

In Friday market people love to wander here and there, though they get all the vegetables at their arms length. It is just like a mini festival as you can find people from all ages making merry in the market.

Every week I used to get a new experience in the market. Once I was seriously picking up the vegetables, somebody at the side also started picking up the vegetables with unusual speed, when I turned my head, I was shocked to see an Ox, which was picking up the vegetables and swallowing it at its own ease. Out of panic, I just left my picked up vegetables and starting running to the other vendor.

Child labours are banned in India but not the child entrepreneurs. You can see plenty of them here freely roaming in the entire market by selling Podhina (Mint) and coriander leaves in a wooden plate hanging in their neck.

I used to feel that it is the vendor next to one from whom I pick up the vegetables keeps fresh and green vegetables. Though I used to change the vendors very often still I get the same feeling.

I really wonder the amazing talents of the scooter riders who wade through the market without hitting anybody. Few car owners also use it as a ‘drive in’ as they purchase the vegetable without getting down from their cars.

My favourite music player

After Thomas Alva Edison invented Gramophone, the music instruments evolved so fast in the form of record player, tape recorder, walk man, memory sticks and now smartphones.

We have plenty of ways to listen music even on the go. Yeah it is really a music revolution that happened to the music world so fast.

No doubt, these music instruments are so convenient to handle and easy to operate and also lot of storage facility. Its really boon to the music lover.

Though I am also using the latest gadgets to listen songs, yet I feel that listening a song in gramophone is certainly different.

If you have a beauty contest among the music players, certainly gramophone would win the title easily ! It has a aesthetic look.

When you open the gramophone box, you immediately get a smell that will certainly transport to some other world. The beauty of vinyl record while running on the disk is still etched in my memory.

The sound is recorded on a very fine line or groove which goes around and around in a spiral from the outside edge of the disk to the center. The phonograph plays the sound with a needle that touches the groove. A record usually has different music on each side. When made of vinyl they were also known as vinyl records.

The sound box kept on the vinyl record add more beauty and also give an impression that it also enjoying the song by shaking its head according to the rhythm of the song !

Digital Vs Print news

This is the age of information explosion. News just poring through 24 hours news channels, desktop PCs, laptops, I Pads, I phones and smart phones.

The younger generation mostly see the news by just flipping their smartphones. News has become just like a instant coffee !

Yeah life being so busy, nobody has time to wait for the news paper and they get updated themselves through electronic devices on the go.

I am a avid reader of news paper. In fact so obsessed with using news papers though I too some times go through news through electronic devices.

I find there is lot of difference between reading news through electronic devices and through news papers. I agree reading news through electronic devices are comfortable, convenient and also instant. But do you really relish the news? That is the big question.

Early morning waiting for the news paper boy and the sound of rolled up paper hitting your door is a pleasant experience.

After picking up, I go through main headlines. Then politics, sports and entertainment. Each page dedicated to particular topic and it gives the reader quickly go to the topic whichever they prefer most.

For in depth analysis I always look for editorials and articles of eminent experts. Due to some reasons if you want to read a particular news later, you can easily find it quickly in printed news paper than search it online.

Printed news paper has lot of local content which certainly won’t find in digital form. I also find plenty of useful advertisements, which I find missing in online.

To read a print news, you don’t need electricity, internet connection and you can comfortably read your news without any hitch.

In lighter vein, printed news has lot of other advantages too. If you go to the park you can spread it on the lawn to sit on it. While going out if it is suddenly drizzling or snowing you can cover your head with the news paper. In case if you want to avoid a person, you can cover your face with news paper pretending that you read the paper seriously !
